I am a psychotherapist in full time private practice and consultant since
1976. In addition to treating depression, anxiety and other
psychological disorders in both private practice and hospital settings, I specialize in chemical dependency assessment and treatment and in the authoring of computerized assessment and diagnostic software.
I have been involved in the design and implementation of psychological assessment processes for inpatient and outpatient chemical dependency treatment and prevention programs.
My past consulting has
included the majority of hospitals in the “Silicon Valley” (Santa Clara County, CA).
I am currently a consultant to Recovery Management Systems in Concord, California;
an alcohol and drug recovery treatment center.
Early in the 1980’s, I became fascinated with the advent of the first personal computers and subsequently learned to program computers,
go on-line with computer telecommunications services, and operated my own Bulletin Board System (BBS) called ShrinkTank BBS.
I am
one of the original cyber-therapists, dispensing free, on-line advice and counsel to users.
Please see other sections of this web site for examples of online
interactions with users.
Further, I have authored numerous original computer programs including expert systems for patient assessment, automated patient records
and outcomes research as well as extensive computer-driven patient interviewing software.
I have presented my work nationally at two
American Psychologist Association (APA) conventions as well as other professional conventions since 1991.
My published writings include
chapters in "Computer Applications In Mental Health: Education and Evaluation", 1992 and “How to Use Computers and Cyberspace in the
Clinical Practice of Psychotherapy”, 1999 as well as articles in nationally circulated magazines, including "Behavioral Health Management".
Additionally, I have taught specialized courses in computers for mental
health professionals in a variety of venues.
In recent years, I have been involved in developing and modifying my diagnostic and treatment
recommendation software for use in self-help software applications.
And finally, I have authored and operated an Internet web site at
http://www.shrinktank.com for use by both lay and professional mental health users. For
my complete Curriculum Vitae, back up to the previous page and thank you
for your interest.
