Eighth Grade feels too real to be a movie.

The Psychology of Eighth Grade

Psych Cinema is Shrink Tank’s video series where licensed professional counselor, Jonathan Hetterly, explores the psychological themes found in the films he watches and loves. One of those films is Eighth Grade, the directorial debut of Bo Burnham.

Eighth Grade is a charming and cringeworthy coming-of-age story. This Psych Cinema explores topics such as technology/social media, social skills, relationships and the MPAA’s choice to give the film an R rating.
