Bonus Episode: ‘Darkest Hour’ and ‘The Post’

During this special bonus feature of the Shrink Tank Podcast, our podcast panelist Dr. Dave Verhaagen discusses ‘The Post’ and ‘Darkest Hour.’ His discussion highlights the difficult decisions and psychological themes that appear throughout both films.

‘Darkest Hour,’ follows Winston Churchill during his time as prime minister, facing a difficult decision as a leader. There are forces in Great Britain who are strongly in favor of negotiation with the Nazi party and Hitler. This movie highlights the importance of strong leadership in troubling times of international conflict, making it a poignant film for today.

Likewise, ‘The Post’ also highlights some importance issues relating to ethics in media that also apply to our current climate. When a young woman, played by Meryl Streep, has to assume responsibility of The Washington Post, she is faced with the decision of whether or not she should publish the Pentagon Papers relating to the Vietnam War.

In lieu of our typical Being Human segment, Dave answers questions from our viewers.

“The answer is ‘yes’, we do like each other, but we do joke each other pretty hard.”
